Workshops for Spring/summer 2017
We teach a wide variety of glass techniques in our newly renovated studio. Our classes range from single day workshops to multi-session courses that run for several months. Once a student has taken the required fundamental fusing class(s) they are eligible to work at their own pace in our open studio sessions. For more information on classes including enrollment instructions, view the following class schedule and description.
NOTE: Most kilnforming classes have an additional date arranged for the critique and pickup of projects. All classes are taught at the Arcade Art Glass Studio. Minimum age is 14 years for all classes.

This five week class is a great way to see what fused glass us all about, have an opportunity to create a variety of glass projects, such coasters, candle holders, small dishes, and more. Discover the magic that happens to glass when it is fired in the kiln! Supplies included.

First Time Fusers Workshop $285

 In this comprehensive introduction to the art and techniques of fused glass you will gain the skills to create beautiful glass art through a mix of demonstrations and "hands on" practice. Learn to design, cut and fire glass while creating three projects chosen to teach you fusing, slumping and draping techniques. Become familiar with the kiln firing process and how artists use time and temperature to achieve different results. This workshop prepares you to participate in the AGC's Open Studio sessions and is a prerequisite for most of our other workshops. A complementary "two hour" Open Studio voucher is provided upon completion. Supplies included. Minimum age 14.

Venetian Glass Beads, Basics and Beyond Workshop $265

Learn to make beautiful glass beads using Venetian flameworking techniques. Make, shape, and decorate beads with dots, stringers, latticino and combing techniques. Home studio set-up will be discussed. Instruction will also focus on practicing and improving shaping and surface decorating techniques. Individual help will be provided for challenges students bring to class. Suitable for both beginners and students with previous flameworking experience. Supplies included.

Designing with Iridized Glass & Mica Workshop $285

Explore techniques to create custom glass compositions using iridized glass and mica appliqués. Cut and reassemble irid glass to create patchwork patterns and learn how to use various stenciling techniques to create masks and sandblast designs on your glass art.  Projects will include tiles and jewelry pendants made with mica appliqués. Pattern Expressions: Alternative Approaches to Vitrigraphs Workshop $325

In this two-day workshop, students will experience the magic of pulling hot, taffy-like glass directly from the vitrigraph kiln to form long glass canes! The class covers a variety of effects achieved by arranging glass in different configurations. Canes will be created that reveal amazing patterns when cut open: some kaleidoscopic, some more mysterious. The cut components (murrine) will be used to create designs in samples and a larger fused glass art work, and you will leave with additional murrine to use in future projects. Supplies included.

Bubble, Bubble, Toil & Fun Workshop $150

One Design -- Many Parts: Recycled Glass Tiles Workshop $295

For over 6000 years, tiles have been used to enhance places of importance. Add a twist to tile-making by using recycled glass! Learn to make tiles for decoration and for larger works of art. Create tiles that will add artistic, personal touches to your home or create larger works of art by spreading your design over several tiles, not limited by the size of your kiln. We’ll cover a variety of techniques to add insterest and pattern to tiles made of recycled glass. Then create a design with a grouping of tiles, using the techniques you prefer. Finally, finish and mount your tiled design. All levels welcome. Supplies included.

Glass Mobile Workshop $175

Jewelry Techniques: Elegant Glass Cabochons $325

In this multi-session class we will explore four techniques to create elegant and unique glass cabochons. We will create: layered glass mini landscapes for decal imagery; custom glass cabochons using glass pressing techniques; color-swirled cabochons by exploring enameling; and “holey” dichroic glass cabochons with casting. All supplies included.

Mother's Day Art Glass Workshop   $85

Have a great Mother's Day working with glass. Come with that special woman in your life or on your own. This is a great chance to find out more about fusing glass. No experience is needed. You'll learn the basics for working with glass, and make a plate or tile with a variety of colorful opaque and transparent glass. Glass Pot Melt Bowls Workshop $200

A pot melt takes advantage of the flow of glass at high heat. During the first session, learn how to set up glass so that it will flow into a form to produce a beautiful and uniquely swirled pot melt. On day two, learn how to cold work your pot melt and slump it into a bowl mold. Take home a bowl like nobody else’s! No experience required. All supplies and use of tools included.

Father's Day Fusing Workshop $85

Spring Break Adventures in Glass (Ages 10-14) $285

Take a break from school to learn about kiln formed glass. In this class, you will learn the basics of glass fusing and then apply your skills to make several art glass projects. Cut the glass and assemble it into a piece ready to fuse in the kiln. After fusing, cold work your piece to perfection and transform it into a functional or sculptural piece. All supplies and use of tools included.

Glass Fusing Camp for Teens (Ages 12-16) $395

This five day camp for teens will let you develop your inner artist, and learn new skills. Students will have daily opportunites to observe and discuss various sources for inspiraton and creative direction, then apply their vision towards designing and creating fused glass art works. Learn basic fused glass skills, find new creative inspiration, and go home with five or more glass projects. No previous experience needed. Supplies included.

Glass Fusing Camp (Ages 10-14) $375

Spend five mornings learning basic fusing techniques. Learn how to cut and design glass to make a plate and a draped glass vase or candle holder. Make a glass mosaic using traditional mosaic principles and modern fusing techniques. Learn how to tack fuse while making a pocket vase or a sun catcher. Supplies included.

Glass Casting Camp for Teens (Age 12-16) $410

How many ways can we cast glass? Find out in this fun-filled week focused entirely on cast glass. In the "hands on" sessions students will use a variety of techniques to create unique glass projects while learning the basics of casting glass.
